The purpose of this job description is to provide a guide by which you and the management of Lewis Design Build Remodel may measure your progress and ability to meet our commitments. The following should be considered an outline of your responsibilities and duties as an employee of Lewis Design Build Remodel, not a detailed description of how all tasks should be completed. 

The Carpenter role supports the successful completion of assigned remodeling and/or construction projects by performing specific carpentry tasks, including but not limited to: demolition, tear-out, debris disposal, foundation layout, framing and structure formation, installation of insulation and drywall,  siding and exterior trim, building decks and porches, window and exterior door installation, interior millwork and doors, cabinet installation, hardware installation, appliance installation, and final detailing and cleanup. The Carpenter is responsible for the successful execution of specific carpentry tasks with minimal supervision as directed by the Production Manager and/or Project Manager.

Essential Functions:

  • Possess a well-rounded understanding of residential construction with a focus on, but not limited to, interior carpentry (installation of cabinetry, rough framing, fireplace mantles, stairs, window and door installation, and finish work).
  • Duties may include but are not limited to demolition, tear-out, debris disposal, foundation layout, framing and structure formation, siding and exterior trim, building decks and porches, window and exterior door installation, interior millwork and doors, cabinet installation, hardware installation, appliance installation, and final detailing and cleanup.
  • Ensure company rules are followed.
  • Must be able to read blueprints and understand job specifications.
  • Ability to communicate well with clients and work in client-occupied homes.
  • Complete work in a timely manner and within designated quantity of hours.
  • Ensure end of day procedures; clean up, weather protection, timecard completion, and security.
  • Ensure jobsite safety and protection.
  • Learn new skills and improve existing skills.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Establish good working relationship with other team members.
  • Foster positive communications and relationships with clients and vendors.
  • Keep up to date on industry trends and developments.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma. 
  • Motivated, self-starter, detail-oriented, highly organized with a positive, can-do attitude. 
  • Knowledgeable in all phases of residential remodeling and construction procedures, with a minimum of four (4) years of carpentry experience. 
  • Rough carpentry experience including layout knowledge of foundations, rafters, and stairs. 
  • Finish carpentry experience including trim, cabinetry installation, and interior finishes. 
  • Good working knowledge of all related building trades. 
  • Ability to interact and communicate well with clients, team members, vendors, and specialty trade contractors. 
  • The ability to supervise, lead, mentor, and teach other team members. 
  • Ability to work within deadlines. 
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and state-required insurance. 
  • Daily access to cloud-based project management software required.
  • Must have an eye for detail and the ability to evaluate for quality and appropriate construction.
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal abilities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner. 
  • Frequent standing, walking, and sitting. 
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. 
  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 60 pounds. 
  • Occasional lifting and carrying up to 80 pounds.
  • Ability to work on ladders and roofs up to 50 feet off the ground. 
  • Must be able to use a computer and see color.
  • Ability to travel to job sites as needed.

Position Summary: 

The Project Manager is responsible for managing assigned projects from initial agreement execution through project completion. The Project Manager is responsible for working closely with the Production Manager to create job schedules and to keep them updated throughout the projects. The Project Manager schedules and oversees all vendors, trade partners, and carpenters on the jobsite, as well as keeps constant communication with the clients The position reports to the Production Manager for assignments and duties. This role should align and embody Lewis Design Build Remodel core vision and values.

Essential Functions: 

  • Participate in project-related meetings as directed by the Production Manager, including the weekly design and production meetings, subsite meetings, pre-construction meeting, and the weekly project progress meetings as required.
  • Review and thoroughly understand all aspects of the project scope, details, job site condition, and client responsibilities and expectations.
  • Meet with designers and estimators after design client meetings to review any changes and/or updates to projects.
  • Review specifications and plans for design and construction practicality.
  • After review of plans and specification review, work with the Designer to ensure specifications and plans are complete and ready to go the field.
  • Prepare project schedules in BuilderTrend and any reports related to estimating and production requested by the Production Manager for submission, in a timely manner.
  • Review all Bid Requests and schedule trade partners and vendors via BuilderTrend.
  • Manage the flow of communication and information to all relevant parties, utilizing the BuilderTrend.
  • Development and processing of all Change Orders for all projects. All Change Orders will be reviewed by the Production Manager for final costing prior to being released to the client.
  • Work with Office Manager to ensure new subcontractors receive and complete Subcontractor Packet.
  • Work with the Production Manager and Carpenters on assigned projects ensuring the construction schedule and budget is met or exceeded.
  • Overall responsibility will be working closely with the Production Manager on planning, scheduling, and tracking each assigned project and consulting with the Carpenter(s), trade partners, and vendors.
  • Collaborates with the relevant Design, Sales, and Production team to ensure a thorough understanding of the scope of the project throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate the purchasing of material packages to job sites such as: windows, doors, trusses, or any items as requested by the Production Manager via Purchase Order in BuilderTrend.
  • Schedule and manage all trade partners and vendors on site.
  • Communicate daily with clients to relay onsite activity, schedules, concerns, etc., and address any questions the clients have.
  • Conduct yourself in a professional, positive, and courteous manner always.
  • Participate in all company events, including company meetings, training sessions, and company social events.
  • Establish a good working relationship with other team members.
  • Foster positive communications and relationships with clients, vendors, and team members.
  • Keep up to date on industry trends and developments.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • At least eight (8) years of experience in carpentry and knowledgeable in all phases of residential remodeling and construction procedures.
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED) required.   Additional schooling within the construction field is highly desired.
  • Residential remodeling experience including layout knowledge of foundations, framing, cabinets, interior finish packages, and working with subcontractors.
  • Ability to interact and communicate well with clients, team members, vendors, and specialty trade contractors.
  • Ability to effectively use analytical and observation skills to accurately estimate and schedule projects.
  • Position will require someone who is highly motivated, self-starter, detail-oriented, highly organized, and has a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude.
  • Able to accurately prepare job estimates, decipher blueprints and analyze renderings for appropriate and accurate quoting of worker hours, materials, and subcontractors.
  • Computer skills include but are not limited to: Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, and the Internet.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the life cycle of a remodeling project required.
  • Proven track record working with all levels of the organization as well as clients.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and state-required insurance.
